EXPIRED This article relates to an offer or promotion which has now expired.
The latest Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer ‘Spontaneous Escapes’ list for discounted award redemption tickets in July 2018 has been released. You’ll have to book before 30th June 2018 to be eligible for the discounted rates.
What is ‘Spontaneous Escapes’
Now a regular fixture on the calendar of KrisFlyer miles earners, the monthly ‘Spontaneous Escapes’ promotion offers discounts on ‘Saver’ award tickets and is generally only available in Economy Class and Business Class on Singapore Airlines and SilkAir flights.
There’s the relatively standard 30% off saver awards, occasional 40% discount offers and a 50% saving which did appear on a single route earlier this year.

The ‘Spontaneous Escapes’ promotion is normally announced around mid-month for promotions in the following calendar month. Offers for July are no exception – with the 30% discount offer on selected routes having been released earlier today. That means two weeks left to search and book at this discounted rate.
Best deals this month
Discounts are applicable for 57 Singapore Airlines and SilkAir destinations for most dates in July. As always there are some blackout dates and specific flight numbers on certain routes. You can see the full listing in the tables below, now including aircraft type information and for business class even the seat type.
Singapore to Frankfurt flights on the 777-300ER (SQ326) feature this month in both Economy and Business Class, with lots of connection options to the rest of Europe from there it’s great value at 59,500 miles in Business Class.
Sadly return options from Europe are not available this month, this probably coincides with the start of European school summer holiday season.
Remember the trick, book one-ways and you can still take advantage of the discount on the first flight. As soon as you book a return with a sector not included in the offer you’ll pay the normal saver rate for the whole itinerary.
Once again Hong Kong flights have 30% off this month with selected services featuring the A380 Version 3 and the latest 2017 business class seats. Look out for flight SQ856 running daily on the SIN-HKG route and SQ861 on HKG-SIN for 19,250 miles each way throughout July. It’s a cheap way to try out these new Business Class seats for about 4 hours.
We reviewed the new 2017 J seat in January – it’s probably one of the best long-haul business class products currently on the market.

With the discount on these flights based on a 30% saving the higher the original miles cost the more miles you save. Singapore to Dusseldorf in Business Class is the regular fixture to Europe and features once again this month – a saving of 25,500 miles each way compared to the usual saver redemption.
Johannesburg is also offered this month – already a great value redemption at saver rates this 9-hour flight on the A350 with the 2013 J seats will set you back just 31,500 miles under this offer.
For Australia and New Zealand there are a number of cities included in both Economy and Business Class this month, including Wellington, Brisbane, Sydney, Adelaide and Perth. Melbourne is sadly missing once again. The longer flights in this zone save 17,400 miles each way in Business Class on the usual saver redemption cost.
New Regional Business Class
Last month there were sadly no opportunities to fly the new 2018 RJ business class seats under the Spontaneous Escapes offer, but for July both Bangkok and Osaka are included at 30% off regular saver rates.
Perth to Singapore flights are also discounted to 22,750 miles in Business Class between 13th July – 31st July on the SQ216 which is flown by the 787-10, though there are no discounts offered on 787s flying southbound flights on the same route during July.
At the tail end of the month after 28th July you can also pick up a 30% discount on the 787-10 as it commences Nagoya flights.

Osaka is a great deal at 30,100 miles each way (compared to 43,000 miles usually). Look out for SQ622 to Osaka and both SQ619 and SQ623 on the way back.
Unfortunately other 787-10 routes like Bali and Manila don’t feature this month, but if you’re still interested in a normal price redemption to try out this brand new seat see our 2018 RJ Tracker page for all the route details.

SilkAir July Discounts
This month SilkAir are offering a range of routes with 30% discounts again only valid in economy class during July 2018. Required miles are shown for one-way redemption.
Hiroshima flights are back sporting the biggest saving of 7,500 miles per sector. Darwin also has good savings but each redemption will have to be booked one-way to take advantage as the SIN-DRW flight is not discounted for July.
Note that we haven’t included aircraft type details for SilkAir flights because unlike SIA many of their flights are served by different aircraft types on different days of the week despite the same flight number being used (e.g. A319 on Monday, A320 on Tuesday, 737-MAX8 on Wednesday…). It would therefore be far too complicated to show any meaningful and accurate aircraft type information for a whole month.

Redemption Availability
We can’t check redemption seats on all these routes for July. One of the standout options for our readers is likely to be the 30,100 miles Business Class redemption between Singapore and Osaka with the latest ‘2018 RJ’ seats on the Boeing 787-10.

Singapore to Hong Kong on the A380 Version 3 with the new business class seats remains widely available as it was for the June offer, and this month there are unfortunately no discounts on the Sydney A380 flights.
Remember availability can change at short notice and bookings must be made by 30th June to enjoy the discounted miles rate. If you’re interested and the date you want isn’t currently available – keep checking!
Trust the System
One snag about the KrisFlyer ‘Spontaneous Escapes’ rates is that they don’t appear obviously when you search a redemption booking. You need to know which routes to search, and then price them up before the lower rate will appear.
Despite it not being very clear until you make your selection, trust the system, proceed to select the flight(s) you’re interested in and the discounted redemption rate will then be shown.
Terms and Conditions
You should all be familiar by now with the rules for this regular offer – but for those new to it here’s a summary of the T&Cs:
- Book before 30th June 2018.
- Valid for flights from 1st – 31st July 2018.
- Valid for ‘Saver’ award tickets on selected routes.
- Blackout dates apply on certain routes (e.g. Singapore to Colombo in Economy Class blocked 5th-9th July).
- Once booked, these promotional redemption rates are non-changeable and cancellable.
- All flights in the chosen itinerary must be included in the offer, otherwise the miles rate reverts to standard ‘Saver’ rates for the whole itinerary with no discount. We recommend booking one-way legs so you can still save, for example on one direction of a return trip.
- Stopovers are not allowed (again, think one-way redemptions with this offer).
- Waitlist Saver redemptions are included in the discount, however the waitlist must clear on or before 30th June otherwise the regular ‘Saver’ rate will apply.
Summary
Great to see some additional Europe options for July, even if it’s one-way only, and also to have the new 787-10 aircraft included on Bangkok and Osaka for those waiting to try out the new regional Business Class product.
There are also some opportunities to try out that product, which we reviewed here, on selected Perth – Singapore flights and at the very end of the month on the Nagoya route.
Remember if you’re unable to secure a return flight at the discounted rates, book two one-way tickets instead. You’ll pay the usual ‘Saver’ rate for the non-discounted sector but at least the whole itinerary will not be at the standard rate.
Do also remember that you will want to have pretty firm plans before taking advantage of one of the ‘Spontaneous Escapes’ offers, because you can’t modify or cancel these bookings once made.
